| Abstract: | In recent years, identity consciousness among the people of Northeast India, especially in Manipur, has grown significantly. Key factors include the concept of single citizenship and the ongoing migration into the region. After Manipur attained full statehood in 1972, concerns over migrants and outsiders sparked several movements. The demand for the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system and Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Meitei community is central to these efforts. Since January 1, 2020, Manipur became the fourth northeastern state to implement the ILP. The paper explores the socio-economic and political factors driving these identity-based movements in Manipur. |
