| Abstract: | Education is the process of acquiring knowledge and information that leads to a successful future. Past generations understood it well, and they emphasized the importance of education and its role in one’s life. Education is a key factor in the progress of any society. The erstwhile state of Cochin had been in the path of educational progress, with the introduction of the modern system of education. The educational statistics and reports published by the Cochin government point out such a state of affairs. The steady progress necessitated the introduction of a systematic policy from time to time. A milestone in that systematic policy of reviewing the prospects and retrospect in education led to the formulation of the Cochin Education Code in June 1911. Its successful implementation with the needed changes from time to time was a milestone in promoting social upliftment and the concept of a progressive state. |
