| Abstract: | Nearly three decades after its initiation, the Women’s Reservation Bill, 2023, was passed by Parliament. This marks a historic step towards empowering women politically. The legislation reserves 33 per cent of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies. This paper analyses the Women’s Reservation Bill, 2023, within its historical context, key clauses, and its significance in India’s patriarchal, multicultural society. It also examines challenges faced during implementation. The paper concludes that reserving seats for women to a certain extent can help create an egalitarian society by addressing gender issues and producing effective legislation that reflects the needs of Indian women. |
