Abstract:The paper analyses the evolution of the Autonomous District Council (ADC) under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India and some of the issues in the recent 2025 ADC elections in the state of Meghalaya. The paper also tries to make a comparison of the provisions of Art 371 vis-à-vis Sixth Schedule as it was an important issue in the ADC election. The paper also discusses the manifestoes of the different political parties for ADC election in Meghalaya. The significant factor in the ADC election was the emergence of the Voice of the People Party at the local level in both the ADCs in Meghalaya, after its thumping success in the Shillong Lok Sabha election last year. The paper also discusses the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill that is pending for amending some provisions of the Sixth Schedule.
